About Siobhan
‘To dance is to express communion with a universal source,
heart and spirit-centered dance is at the core of healing and inspiration.’
An award-winning dance artist, Siobhan started dancing at age 5 training in classical ballet, jazz, tap and studied modern dance in college. After graduating from East-West College of Healing Arts, the Oriental dance art spirit within her awakened. Siobhan’s dedication to artistry, fitness and health has continued through training certification programs, academic study trips and continuing education in Egypt, Turkey, Belgium, China, Thailand, Mexico and in the USA. She has attended several international workshops and seminars to enrich her knowledge and skill of Middle Eastern dance, music and culture. Her aspiration in dance is to access and express her soul, bring people closer to the heart and experience the transformation in awareness through dance and yoga.
In January 2012, Siobhan completed the ISOC (Intl. Saray of Oriental Culture) 160 hour Oriental Dancer/Teacher Training Development Program by Prof. Dr. Hassan Khalil in Cairo, Egypt and Brussels, Belgium;
‘Specialty Teacher for Oriental/Middle Eastern Dance and Egyptian Folklore.’
Currently, she is studying in a 2 year language program in Modern Standard Arabic at OSU. She participates in both local, regional, and international dance community events and is a life-long student making friends world-wide.
Siobhan has been featured in ‘Pulse8 Elements Bellydance Fitness’ instructional DVD and ‘Performance Artistry’ DVD produced by filmmaker Keti Sharif. She enjoys teaching dance and yoga workshops around the USA with Keti Sharif and team of A-Z teachers and artists. Upcoming, she will be offering dance workshops and yoga classes at Keti’s A-Z Teacher Training Program in Rochester, New York in June 2013.
As a health care professional of over 14 years, she has completed over 700 hours of education classes in anatomy, kinesiology, body mechanics, preventative self-care, healing modalities including acupressure, Thai bodywork, Shiatsu, Tuina Acupressure, Cranial Sacral Therapy and second-degree Reiki energy work. Helping inspire others to build and maintain health and fitness is her primary aspiration as a Certified Yoga Instructor and Healing Arts Practitioner.
Siobhan has been teaching weekly classes and workshops in Yoga and Oriental dance since Sept. 1998 and is Director of Galactivate Studio in Corvallis, Oregon since Jan 2005. Her teaching approach can best be described as ‘wholistic’ as she fuses artistic heart-felt expression, cultural knowledge, language, and body science helping people to experience the various aspects of understanding the disciplines, and most important, have fun while doing it!
Siobhan’s commitment to service through art has also produced a series of dance showcases fundraisers to animal welfare and humanitarian organizations. Her latest community service program she calls, ‘Classes for a Cause,’ where she is donating proceeds to a local animal shelter.
